For me, song writing is not as difficult as it seems. Once you have an idea or a feeling that you cannot convey, you may write it immediately in a piece of paper (or a notebook) and let the ideas flow through you. But to explain further, here are some rules that you might want to consider when you write a song.
Write for Love
You can think back and reminisce one of the most important events in your life and that is the time you fell in love or loved someone deeply. It could be love for your parents, sibling, friend, or from a lover. Think about a song that conveys the same feelings you have and get inspiration from it. Remember that you always have to write what’s in your heart and see the message will come easily. Just say what you feel and see that you have made the most beautiful song you have ever written.
Write everyday
As the saying goes, “Practice Makes Perfect”. If you want to be an expert in writing songs, you should make it a point that you right every day, even just for 15 minutes. You will never be good at something if you never practice. Once you sit down on a chair and got nothing to do, grab a pen and paper and start writing a song.
Try to write for Money
Next to love, I guess money would such be an interesting topic. Some of the best song writers right now are inspired to write because they know they will get paid. Money could motivate or even inspire someone to do something perfectly. If a person asks you to use your music, they will possibly lay out a few bucks (maybe thousands) just to record your song and thousands more to promote it.
Always listen to Music
Even though some song writers say that listening to music impairs their creativity, you still have to listen to other music because it will only enrich your musical experience and then improve the quality of your own work. Music is a way to communicate, and people communicate not only by talking but also by listening. By this way, you can also be updated to what’s new and what’s out in song writing styles.
