- Always make some time for family activities. Play time with your family is a great way to break free from your work and relax with your family. You can take a walk or go to the park, weather permitting of course. Maybe a trip to a museum, an amusement park, the beach or even the Zoo. You can also opt to stay inside and bring out the old fun board games and make some treats with your kids and share them during game activities.
- Plan a family night. Let everyone know that they should be home on a certain night a week so you can all do things as a family. Make it a movie night, get everyone together and pop some popcorn, go to the Red box and rent a movie and enjoy a relaxing night. If you are married, take a night on the weekend to get away and have dinner with your spouse and possibly dancing or a movie. You don't have to spend a lot of money to do things of quality with your family. Just make the time for having fun and being together and let the rest fall into place.
- Whenever your children have activities such as after-school games or recitals, always make the best effort to be there for them. It will show your kids that they are important to you and they will strive to do their best to make you proud, but remember win or lose is no matter, it's putting forth the effort and being there to watch them.
- Make rules and stick to them. If the kids are aware that they are not to interrupt you when you are working you will be able to get done in an efficient manner which will create more time for your family. Do not let them break the rules, be consistent, if you let them break the rules, then they will attempt to break the rules again. Consistency shows them respect and how it can save you time in the long run to spend more time doing things you love.
- Keep a close eye on the attention each child needs. As you know, every child is different and some will expect more attention, and some may go off and play by themselves until their time comes to be with you. Take the time to spend moments with each child individually. Since children have different likes and dislikes it is important to set aside time for each child one on one and explain to them, all their time will be equal.
- Coming home from school can be hectic, so take the time to sit and talk with them and ask them how their day went. What type of things they did in school that day? They will be very excited that you are interested in their day. Help them with their homework as needed, you need to let them attempt their work on their own, but be there to help when needed and to go over their work when they are finished. Homework is best completed shortly after getting home. This way they will not have to worry about it before bed time and it is still fresh in their minds what they learned during the school day.
- If you do work in your home and it is something your children can help with, then let them involve themselves in your work. If it is not, then when you are done, tell them how you worked that day, what you accomplished and how you felt your day went. Doing so sets an example of what work is truly about.
Remember, it is all too easy to get buried knee-deep in your work, even at home. If you create a plan, it can make working at home a pleasant experience. If you think about it, it is your family that helped in your decision to work at home, so don't get too caught up in your work and always share quality time with your family.
